Managing Director Deborah studied law at the University of Durham and was admitted as a solicitor in 1987. She trained in London where she worked for 13 years in a High Street practice before setting up her own specialist children law firm – Deborah Baxter & Company – in Reading in 1998.

In 2012 Deborah transferred her practice to Essex and went into partnership with Nicola Harries who had practised as a solicitor in Ongar for over 30 years – and the firm of Baxter Harries came into being.

Deborah is a member of the Law Society Children Panel and has higher rights of advocacy in the civil Courts of England and Wales.

Deborah is the managing director of Baxter Harries. She leads the Children Law team and maintains her own case load of complex Children cases. She is regularly instructed to represent parents and children in Care Proceedings and private law family cases and frequently conducts lengthy contested hearings, including in the High Court.

Deborah is often complimented for her sensitive and straightforward approach and her skilful advocacy.

Deborah has a particular interest in offering bespoke services to the LGBT community, including matters related to surrogacy.

Deborah lives in London with her partner who is a family QC and two cocker spaniels. In her spare time, Deborah is studying for an MBA with the University of Warwick.
