Laura has worked for Baxter Harries since its formation in 2012. Previously, Laura worked for Deborah Baxter in Reading for over 5 years.
Laura studied Law and Early Childhood Studies at the University of the West of England and this unique combination of subjects has given Laura an excellent grounding for her work in children law.
Laura specialises in all aspects of children law and relationship breakdown.
Laura is renowned for her work in children law and has a particular passion for representing parents and carers with learning difficulties and/or mental health problems. In 2013 Laura assisted Elizabeth Isaacs QC in the representation a mother with learning difficulties and won an appeal to overturn a final care and placement order. You can read about that case here.
Laura frequently represents parents, grandparents and family members in care proceedings and regularly advises prospective Special Guardians in relation to Special Guardianship Orders. Laura is passionate about ensuring Special Guardians have the correct level of support following an order being made.
Laura also has considerable experience in advising on and resolving difficult disputes in private law proceedings concerning living arrangements for children or disputes about the amount of time a non- resident parent should spend with a child (previously known as contact disputes) including applications by grandparents or other family members.
Laura also specialises in international family law; in particular child abduction and wrongful retention of children. Laura recently represented a mother in a wrongful retention case which was heard in the High Court and Court of Appeal. You can read about that case here.
Colleagues and clients alike comment on Laura’s patience, empathy and ability to achieve the best outcome for all of her clients.
